"Drew Brees is "livid" about being franchise tagged and not receiving a long-term contract, according to WIST-AM in New Orleans. The radio station cites sources in the Brees camp that he will not sign the franchise tag deal. Brees and the Saints have until July 15 to hammer out a long-term deal."

But let's not ignore pessimism completely. If Brees wants, he can refuse to sign the franchise tag offer, and hold out. Maybe the Saints never wake up, and maybe that happens, and they get a taste of life with Chase Daniel as the starting quarterback (Note to Saints fans: If you enjoyed 1984 through 2005, you'll love Chase Daniel). Or maybe no long-term deal can be worked out, and Brees plays one season under the franchise tag and then walks.

So things aren't great at the moment, but it's a little early to declare this a disaster, either. I just have a hard time believing that the Saints would screw up a decision that seems like it should be so easy.

I think they will get things worked out.

Hello Phoggydoggy!

There's a lot of nervous energy..but we are doing well.  Most of all I hope our familes behave themselves..there are some real characters there and the personalities sometimes clash, especially with alcohol present.  But you are correct, while the day is special in the end it's just the first day!

Well there it is.  I've seen it coming for a while but didn't want to belive the articals and posts.  I didn't think it would happen.  We will never truely know why the decision was made.  Irsay said it wasn't about the money, and I would be upset to learn that Peyton wouldn't restructure his contract after taking 24 million last July and not playing a single down.  I can't help but wonder if the team doctors didn't think he would be ready.

But I wish him well.  He will return someday to thunderous applause when his jersey is retired, and when he is enshrined in Canton in the Blue and White Horseshoe.

Peyton Manning is a class guy, regardless of the money situation!

For the next few years, any team that gets him will only improve for it.

Peyton Manning, one of the greatest QB's to ever play the game and a Hell of a Man. I love him so and can't wait to see who is lucky enough to get him next. I think he would look great as a Tennessee Titan.

I love you T-Girl........I think we should get E- Married........lol

I don't think he will go to the Titans ???.........Money does talk BUT I think Bud Adams will NOT buck up to get Peyton with Jake Locker in the wings.

Looks like Seattle is making a BIG BID to get him ???

Wherever he goes, it'll be weird seeing that 18 on another jersey that's for sure.

My choice would be the 49ers.

I can't see him going to the Redskins, nor the Jets.  49ers would be a good fit, as would the Seahawks.  Miami?  Chiefs? I agree with Larry, you have a QB of the future that you are trying to slowly bring along, why waste that developement on 2 or 3 years of Peyton.  Where ever he goes, the recievers had better be ready to work.

But I thought Alex Smith was their QB of the future.

Haha..this was Alex's best season but he was only 9th in the league in passer rating, 11th in completion percentage, 17th in TDs, and 19th in yardage.  Very good with ball security though, only 5 picks..but he is more of a ball security/manage the offense type.

Let Peyton come in and cut things loose..he'll instantly make Morgan, Ginn, Crabtree and Davis alot better and with the running game of Frank Gore and Kendall Hunter that offense will be formidable to go with their fine defense.
