I'm with Tark. Bruce is teh sucks. I doubt Tark's age has anything to do with his musical taste. The guy chose a handle based on a obscure ELP saga, not a Lady Gaga song.

i don't care for most of springsteen's stuff, but i do have 4 of his songs in my collection. i'd post a link, but my ISP charges me a penalty every time they have to transmit brackets, so i'll just say my favorite of his is "she's the one".

I like Bruce. I always liked Glory Days, and as I get older, the song is beginning to have more meaning.

I don't actively listen to his music, but I have no problem with him.

Springsteen made a crap ton of money feeding off the patriotic movement in the 80s.  Then he got all politicky in recent elections.  If he had just shut up and played his music, I might like him a bit more.

I really do not care about Bruce Springsteen, not one bit.  There are probably a couple of songs I might like, but none I can name off the top of my head because they mean so little and the whole message of the song escapes me before I realize it because none of those songs are memorable.

I like alot of Springsteens older stuff because it has some deep dark introspective material with "the river" being my favorite song. I hated Born in the USA. Like so many artists, they sellout and become too mainstream or "poppy" which is exactly what Born in USA is.

red-tark's age does have something to do with it. he was born in the 80's when mtv showed bruce dancing with courtney cox 24-7 would make anyone hate him. like all-pgh said, his 70's music was good rock music when tark wasn't even born yet. his late 80's stuff was more pop than rock and he lost fans. then he sucked in the 90's bs the oscar winning philadelphia song and that awful song from jerry mcguire which they spliced to edit words from the movie into it and then play it on the radio. ugh. then 9/11 happened and his 1 cd was all about 9/11 without actually saying new work or 9/11. 3 songs from that i like. anything after that i dislike. however, his 1 album - darkness on the edge of town had 12 songs in the late 70's and he cut 13 songs from the final album. he released those missing songs on a cd 3 yrs ago called the promise. for being hidden for over 25 yrs and from 1978 it was really good. again, tark was born in the mtv duran duran, aha, prince, madonna, and huey lewis and the news craze. bruce was in his pop faze, so no child would like him then.

Yeah, I know, Red, particularly the title track.  He still made a ton of dough off of it, though.  I lived in NY when that album came out and many of my New Jersey buddies thought he sold out on that album.

I think Tark was born after the Courtney Cox days, too. He's like '87 or '88 I think. As for the beer, cases would range greatly depending on what you want. Abita is like $35. St Bernardus Abt 12 is closer to $150 (which is why I buy them in 4 packs). You can always find something decent in your price range.

Although they're the male equivalent of cosmos, fortunately they are usually less than 2x the price per case of the major brands.   I'm not an expert on recent pricing though, I don't drink as much as I mean to.

I don't think I've ever bought beer in case unless it's something like Miller Lite.  The 'expense' type I buy in six packs or in singles if they're available that way.  For a sixer, as Red points out, it completely depends.  I usually fork out between 6 and 10 bucks for a six pack.

There is a reason why I like Tool, even though they kind of sold out too.

Really, once you sign a record label deal, you've sold out.  Tool though doesn't sponsor anything except themselves and just promote more music, that is of higher and higher quality.  They were smart enough not to allow the record label have any creative control in the contract, they can't exclude any tracks nor demand any type of song be put in.  At least that shows that Tool was in it for the long haul whether or not people accepted their music or not.  They just wanted to be who they wanted to be, but at the same time the whole reason why the deal was signed was to make money and eventually pursue other projects which every band member has done.  Maynard has 2 other bands with various well-known artists (A Perfect Circle: Billy Howerdel and Josh Freese probably the most notable; and Puscifier: has many artists contributing including members of Skinny Puppy and Lustmord).  Then you have Justin Chancellor and Adam Jones who have done a few small bands themselves (Peach, Isis) and Danny Carey who has been all over LA with a few bands and is still part of Pygmy Love Circus.

As you can see, they've been one of my favorite bands since I first heard their first EP Opiate.  I have a lot of musical tastes, but they're the only band still around today making incredible music and shows and are still alive.

I think the equivalent for me would be the Stones, Catfish. I was born in '80, but I don't associate them with their hits off Emotional Rescue, Some Girls or Tattoo You. It's all about Let it Bleed, Exile on Main St. and Sticky Fingers.

It's the natural progression of bands to sell out.

I've been witnessing one of my favorites (Muse) go through this the last few years. Their stuff used to be so much different. Now they've become a part of doing soundtracks for the freaking Twilight saga. Matt Bellamy used to have a punkish look and Muse almost formed by accident. He's a virtuoso musician and plays multiple instruments at an expert level and Muse still makes damn good music, but it's just disappointing how they've changed since I began following them over 10 years ago.

One of the biggest sellouts I can remember from high school was RED Speedwagon.  When the album High Infidelity came out, there were tons of people that were seriously pissed.  Styx was pretty bad, too.

one of the things i love about this thread is all the punk kids (which pretty much covers ALL of you, comparatively Wink ) with good taste in music.

It's all about Let it Bleed, Exile on Main St. and Sticky Fingers.

i triple dog dare anyone to name a better set of 3 consecutive albums than these.
