lol, talk about sensitive. Listen, you already know my opinion on Minaya, I'm not getting into that again, I remember how sensitive you were when I talked about him and pointed out how lousy of a GM he was, all the horrible contracts he gave out, bad trades and everyhing.

But as far as recently. I just made the statement basically saying that "the ex-Met Minaya traded named Philip Humber pitche a perfect game."

Total fact. Why get sensitive about that? Its a simple sentence, a fact.

It was an ugly 18-9 loss for the New York Mets, at the hands of the Colorado Rockies.  Yet one silver lining was the theatrics of Scott Hairston.  An unlikely candidate, given he only had five hits on the season, coming into the contest.  With the cycle, which Hairston also completed in just six innings, he became the tenth Mets player in franchise history to attain the feat.

Very quick thoughts on tonights game,
Manny Acosta sucks, I can't stand him, he should pitch only in garbage time. He can't be trusted in tight ball games. Just because he had a 1-2-3 inning, Terry should've thought twice before going to the well again. I understand it's a long season, but I simply don't like or trust Manny Acosta, he always gets knocked around.
Oh, and, captain Kirk, is the real deal. Huge hit he came up with to tie it in the 7th.

Mets get it right: Kudos to the Mets for honoring MCA aka Adam Yauch of the Beastie Boys, who passed away on Friday from cancer at 47.  On Friday night, each Mets player walked up to the plate to a select Beastie Boys song.  Ruben Tejeda – Intergalactic, Daniel Murphy – No Sleep Till Brooklyn, David Wright – Brass Monkey, Lucas Duda – The New Style, Scott Hairston – Root Down, Ike Davis – Fight for Your Right, Andres Torres – So Watch’cha Want, Josh Thole – Make Some Noise, Dillon Gee – Body Movin’.  Pretty cool stuff.

Mets looking good lately, nice comeback win tonight against the Phillies from down 4 runs. We've taken the 1st 2 series of the year from them.. Mets also have now won 4 games in a row, and are currently 4 games over .500.  And the Phillies? well... in the basement!!! for now at least..

I don't know how long this good baseball is gonna last for the Mets, but I know I like the mentality of the Mets this year. They get down to business, nothing shakes them from going after their goal, they just play serious to win. They keep coming back with a positive attitude game after game, whether they lost the night before or won, they come back with the same focus.  We didn't see this much confidence and focus from the Mets in previous years. Our young players are mentally tough and better than many are giving credit to as well.

And Terry Collins is doing a good job. I know a couple of you want to see him get his ass kicked out the door the second he arrived, but those folks should recognize that this is not a bad manager.

Hey check you out, the 17-13 New York Mets!  Make that two series the Mets have taken in Philadelphia this season and it’s only May!  In spite of an early two-run home run by Hunter Pence (his seventh), New York rallied for a 7-4 victory.  Kirk Nieuwenhuis, David Wright and Lucas Duda had the big knocks, driving in five of the Mets seven runs on the evening.  New York gets it done, even with Ruben Tejada and Josh Thole on the mend.  The Mets are now the hottest club in baseball with four straight wins.

The Padres have released Orlando Hudson after a year and 6 weeks on his 11.5 M 2 yr contract with a 2 M buy out on his 8 M team option.  I know that there were legions of "O" Dog fans who wanted Sandy to sign him.  Well done Sandy, but even I would be opposed today at 500K but there is no room unless we sent Jordany Valdespin down.  There is merit either way, but I would lean toward keeping Valdespin up at least until Tejada returns.  Terry plays his bench and even while sitting Valdespin is still learning and maturing.

If you play Fantasy Baseball you have and will continue to have those conflicting moments.  Brandon Morrow was just that.  I probably nailed down a win this week in one league with his CG shutout.  It is conflicting because he pitched that against the Mets.  The 2nd B Umpire clearly missed that play at second base which would have given the Mets tying runs on 2nd and 3rd with one out.  I'm selling myself that Murphs line drive at Escobar would have doubled up Baxter leading off 2nd.  Could be wrong.
The Mets played good 'D' and pitched well but Morrow owned the Mets hitters.

At this moment, my Mets Daily Thoughts are this:  How good would we be if Ike was playing to his full potential.  It's hard to watch him at the plate so far this season guys.  I think the whole "Flu" thing may actually be holding him back.  Thoughts?

Ike just cannot seem to get in a grove like last year. I dont think it has anything to do with his health.

And yes the Mets would be a lot better if he was performing.

However he is not the big problem. Our closer is.

He makes me want Krod back.

Man, last nights loss was a really tough one for me to swallow. Up 4-0 with Santana on the hill should be a W at the end of the night. So, he made a mistake or two, and let the lead slip away. But then that miscommunication on that routine fly ball sealed the deal for a huge tough loss to accept.
Pittsburgh stinks, they pitch very well, but they can't hit their way out of a paper bag. And we let one get away from us last night. They're the games we gotta have to stick around at the end of the year. This loss to me was much worse than losing 12-0. We played good enough to win that game, with the acception of a few differant plays.
We gotta take these next two from Pitt. we're a better team!

It's a day late, but I agree that was a tough loss to take.  Pittsburgh does have good pitching; their bullpen in particular is reallly strong.  Still though when you're up 4-0 with Santana on the hill you NEED to win those games.  As well as this team is playing, they've lost an awful lot of those kinds of games this year.  It's a little hard to say stuff like "this team should be 10-12 games over .500" since the season began with such low expectations, but the truth is they really should be close to 1st place with all of the games they've blown late and in some of the most bizarre situations.

Gotta win today and get out of Pittsburgh with some momentum.

My Mets Daily Thought of the Day: I don't like the fact that we have Jeremy Hefner starting once every five days.  Is it time that we take the chance with Harvey?  I think yes.  We don't have anything to lose in my opinion.

There is no doubt that the hole in the rotation has left us without a clear answer, Chris Schwinden was brutal in two stars.  Miguel Bastisa got us two wins, one ugly and one very good.  Hefrner gave us a decent 5 inn. a week ago in Niese's bad game but last night with family present he got beat up.  I write that one off because of it being his first start, the tough conditions and a 68 minute rain delay.  Maybe send him down for his next start, give the ball to Batista and then bring him back up.
Matt Harvey is not IMO ready, 36 starts in the minors and a 4.38 ERA at AA and Tri A.  He has a good Strikeout/walk ratio but giving up too many hits.  Don't rush him and don't lose a year of team control because we haven't figured out Pelfrey's spot.  Harvey is not a guarantee yet.

Mets thought of the day:  Sandy Alderson and Terry Collins are 2 very good baseball men.  I bet throwing a bunch of money at borderline FA's wouldn't have yielded a more competitive product on the field.  As far as the young arms, I'm dying to see one too.  However, they don't want to rush the kids because we know what happens when you crush a young pitchers mojo by throwing him out there too soon.

I just hope, for Johan, that this game turns the tide and he wins like his next 25-30 games for us. If the Offense can click with Joahn pitching, this team can win many games.

Well said Navy and that's exactly the risk you run rushing Harvey up.  It's easy to forget that he's still a young guy and bringing him up could crush his confidence long-term if he struggles.  Even if it's not a permanent killer it takes awhile to build that back.

You've got to think that the coaching staff and front office know if he's truly ready or not.  Otherwise they wouldn't be throwing Batista out there still.  His stats aren't great this year (51 hits in 53+ innings, 2.32 K/BB ratio, too many walks still) but of course that's only part of the story.  Give it time and he should be up fairly soon.

The guy really is amazing.  He was dogged about coming back, working diligently but not pushing it.  Now he sure looks like the pitcher we were enjoying having around before the injury.  That game was simply a masterpiece.  Yeah San Diego isn't exactly Murderer's Row but it doesn't matter.  His economy of pitches and ability to keep hitters off balance was amazing.

Let's hope this is yet another shot in the arm for this team.  During the broadcast yesterday (I was in the car for part of it) Howie was saying that when players are asked who's the most competitive guy on the team, they always say Santana.  That's not a bad characteristic to have from one of your highest-paid stars.
