Those who make the decisions.....
My advice to those people is to realize that in any business the people making the decisions are typically the people furthest removed from the actual situations and people involved. All the numbers, graphs, etc. won't ever tell the entire situation even though they do often reveal things that wouldn't be noticed without them. The employees you currently have answering these questions seem to have a pretty good feel for what's going on with the community. They have been more responsive than I have seen in the past, listened more, and responded faster. While the steps to make that happen have been implemented well, to not realize their information is key in decision making would be a huge mistake. I believe it is your network that airs the show about the CEOs going undercover in their own corporation only to realize how very out of touch they are with the situations involved. It would be a wise choice to realize that this often the case. The lesson the show is supposed to be giving is one you yourselves should think about.
While limiting the favorites may result in quicker loading times, it will also have a drastic effect on people's ability to interact as a community. Different people are on at different times. If you limit people's ability to quickly and easily see if the posters they enjoy interacting with are around, they will ultimately find the experiences less and less enjoyable. I don't think a quicker route to an unenjoyable end (fast load times but can't find the people you want to post with) is really a goal worth striving for. When you look at the whole picture versus simply meeting a goal to make the site load quicker I think it's fairly apparent that this soultion needs revamped or scrapped.
Oh and if anybody is listening, (not the moderators, you've heard it enough times from enough people) the quote box thing is FAR more annoying than the loading time. You'd make a lot of people happy by finding a solution to that disaster. They may even find a spot for you on their favorites list. If you don't know what the quote box thing is, you are out of touch.
Ways to improve your Overall Reputation Rating:
I don't care that much about my rep as long as I can create my own av. glog & blog if I choose but if CBS is going to put a limit on how many people you can add to favorites then they have to take a look at their guidelines, IMO...bluejay
The cap is still at fifty, with no immediate plans to change anything. It's not an error or a glitch related to the redesign, but something that has been in the works for a while. This change was supposed to take effect last year, but seems to have been implemented only now. The limit is to speed up database access, is what I've been told.
If you're currently below 50 favorites and still have trouble adding, try waiting for the system to recognize the add. Sometimes, it takes a while to process.
I agree that a fifty, even a 100 favorites limit is severely limiting. We definitely hear your concerns and sympathize with them. That's why we're fighting for you on this, just like we did the quicklinks removal and just like we did when they took away the message board links on the dropdown menus. Now it's "It's not an error or a glitch related to the redesign, but something that has been in the works for a while." That begs the question, was it really a planned change, or are the people in charge of the database design too stupid to figure out. The number of favorites users have should in no way have an effect on the ability of the message boards to load. Its a horrible design. It didn't seem to be a problem before, but since you move a few things around and make everything blue, there is suddenly panic in the CBS server room because of the load on the servers. What other changes are coming? How about removing the ability to have custom avatars? It will remove the need to have an admin look at them, and will take less space on your overly crowded server.
If your goal is to piss people off and drive them away to other sports related site, I must say COngratulations. You are well on your way to achieving your goal if future "additions" are anything similiar to what you have done with Favorites.
Please add my voice to those who have already spoken in favor of removing the limit on favorites.
