With Ryan Madson blowing his 6th save on Saturday and Brad Lidge almost blowing his 11th on Sunday afternoon, what do the Phillies do with the bullpen come October? Do they leave Lidge of the postseason roster? Madson is just 8/14 in save chances and thats a worse clip than Lidge at 29/39. Tyler Walker has been a great since joining the club in July, but is he the answer? He was alright as a closer for the Giants in '05 converting 23/28 with a 4.23 ERA, but that was a 4 years ago. Scott Eyre has an elbow problem isn't available at the moment. Chan Ho Park has been great out of the pen this year with a 2.57 ERA over 49 innings in 37 games. But he's just 2/6 for his career in save chances, including 0/1 this year. Who knows if J.C. Romero or Clay Condrey will even be back for the playoffs, let alone able to close. Right now the Phils best bet for a closer might be Brett Myers, assuming he's not throwing back-to-back games. He was an excellent closer in '07 converting 21/24 with a 2.87 ERA over 53.1 innings in 48 games with 3.5-1 strikeout to walk ratio. Charlie might just have to go closer by committee or by situation. But if they want to repeat they're gonna need to get some consistency from the back end of the pen along with Park and Walker.
