The Colts Are Finished. The Door Closed.....

Posted on: October 27, 2008 11:40 pm

Tomorrow, in every sports journal or newspaper in America, you will read how the Indianapolis Colts run of being an elite team in the NFL has come to an end.  The obituary will be written that Peyton Manning is washed up and that Marvin Harrison is done.

The window is closed.

You know what I say to that?  Baloney!

What you saw tonight was a Titans team, playing in their home stadium, that went up hard against a division opponent.  The Colts came out on the short end.

Is it over for the Colts?  No.  Is it a guartantee that the Titans are going to the Super Bowl, like the sign I just read?  That's laughable.  There are still 9 games left in this season, and plenty of time for the Colts to win games, and make a run at the division.  Even if they don't win the divivsion, it is still a close conference.  Beat up on the AFC North and the Patriots, and whomever else may come our way, and lets see what happens.

Congratulations to the Tennessee Titans on a game well played.  However, the season is not over yet.

For the Colts, I felt that the defense improved a lot and next week, Bob Sanders returns.  I'm not overly excited about Joseph Addai's return, as I think that he is accident prone, and is not as explosive as he needs to be.

I still have a lot of hopes for the end of the season.

As to the game, we ran the ball well.  We played better on defense.  Tennessee was the better team, tonight.

The Colts Are Finished. The Door Closed.....

The indianapolis colts are one of the best teams in the NFL

Even though they have not been doing as well this year, they still have potential.

If Joseph Addai and Reggie Wayne step up. . .

Were going all the way

Especially since they have a 7-0 lead so far vs. the Patriots

Im a colts fan from hundreds of miles away

If they can cream the pats this game, we have a hell of a chance in the playoffs

believe it or not. I think with the return of Bob Sanders this week will make a huge difference for us on defense its not strange to think this, as its exactly what happened during the '06 playoffs...

The Colts Are Finished. The Door Closed.....

You are 100% right. The Colts aren't done. Who cares if we don't win the division as long as we make the playoffs that is what matters. I rather the Colts play the first weekend instead of having a bye... First we have to make the playoffs. We are playing better football believe it or not. I think with the return of Bob Sanders this week will make a huge difference for us on defense. We will come around and pull it through...

the colts were actually stumbling into the playoffs in 06. i remember chris collinsworth running his mouth about how larry johnson was going to dismantle our run defense, and if i remember right we held him to like 30 yards. it was san diego and baltimore who had the byes that year (although i guess both were the colts and patriots, but still). anyways, i doubt very much that the colts are done. granted we are only looking at a 5 or 6 spot in the playoffs, but i think we'll get in. a lot of the other AFC 'elite' are struggling too (san diego, jacksonville, cleveland, etc). after the 4 division leaders (well 5 if you count NE and BUF as tied), there are still 7 teams within 1 game of .500, and the chargers are still in it at 3-5. if anything, this is just going to make the playoff race more intersting. GO COLTS!

The Colts Are Finished. The Door Closed.....

run of being an elite team in the NFL has come to an end.

The only people that it matters to whether a team is elite or not are that respective teams fans.  Now, some perspective on the terms "elite" and reality.  In the past four years, only one team that was designated elite for that year actually won the Superbowl.

04-05 - Steelers and Colts were the darlings of the year. Steelers (15-1) and Colts with the high powered offense.  Patriots somehow were pulled out of the elite status - I think due to the improbability of winning back to back SBs.   Patriots won the SB.

05-06 - Colts and Bengals were the designated elite teams that year.  Steelers took the SB on a WC.

06-07 - Colts were designated as elite and actually got their ring that year.

07-08 - Chargers, Colts and Patriots were elite teams...Giants won the ring on a WC.

Seems to me that being an elite team is more of a curse then anything.  All these years the Colts were elite and only have one ring to show for it.  I wouldn't fret about your team.  Still too much of the season left (though I'm really hoping the rush defense is the same when they go into Heinz Field in two weeks :).
