Madson on walk-in music: 'I don't want any'

GOODYEAR, Ariz. -- With closers playing musical chairs this winter, the biggest question of the spring became . . . music?

Sure.

Jonathan Papelbon moved from the Red Sox to the Phillies, so the Dropkick Murphys say he can't use "Shipping Up To Boston" as his walk-in music. Andrew Bailey moved from the A's to the Red Sox, and the music question is big enough that Bailey opened a Twitter chat Wednesday night by saying, "FYI, no walk out song yet."

And what about Ryan Madson, who moved from the Phillies to the Reds?

Last year, Madson entered games to "Don't Stop Believing'." Theoretically, he could do the same this year, since the song isn't exactly tied to Philadelphia.

But Madson said he doesn't want it. In fact, when the Reds asked him what song he wanted, he said he told them he didn't want anything.

"I just want to go out there and get three outs," Madson said Thursday morning.

Madson is in good spirits, despite some elbow soreness that has kept him out of early Cactus League games, and despite a winter that saw him leave the Phillies after talks about a multiyear contract strangely fell through.

"I'm a simple guy from California," he said.

He signed a one-year deal with the Reds for $8.5 million, a little apprehensive about changing teams for the first time in his career.

"I didn't really know what to expect, but it's been great," he said. "I like all the guys. They're very cool."

And about what happened at the end in Philadelphia, when he was offered at least a three-year deal and then seemed close to signing a four-year deal?

"I don't even care anymore," Madson said.

Madson on walk-in music: 'I don't want any'

Good luck, madsen is streaky and tends to lose his control. Good pitcher and will miss him as setup man.

Madson on walk-in music: 'I don't want any'

I can see right now that Cincinnati fans are going to love this guy.  Welcome to The Nati' Ryan !!

With an atitude of "I just want to go out there and get three outs" and "I'm a simple guy from California,"  the only noise you will need is Cincy fans deafening roar as you close out games in 2012.

We will also be ready Sept. 3-5 -- the 3 game series against Philly.  I foresee Madson getting 2 Saves --- with the 3rd going to Wilson Valez  :)

Signing Votto isn't as much to do about money as you think(in RE: What makes me think Cincy could sign Bautista).  Joey looks disinterested at times and frankly has hinted about not wanting to be in Cincy.  Alot of people want him in Toronto so he can be the hometown kid along with Lawrie.  Bautista is the only guy on the roster worthy of trading for a MVP.  There is some money there.  Latos deal is nothing.  Arroyo comes off the books after this year.  Cordero's deal is gone.  The money is there.  It depends on whether Votto wants to stay in Cincy and I'm saying he doesn't.  But he won't walk on Walt.  That's a fact.

Madson on walk-in music: 'I don't want any'

This is dumb. And the music is for the fans/crowd not for Madson. Not really for any pitcher, since an athelete will zone all this out anyway. Idiots all around, from Madson to Knobler.

Wait!  You mean he's more concerned about his job than his rep?  Please clone this guy's attitude and install it in players who lack one...

Entrance music, really?  The cult of personality... that's what Americans worship.

Im glad Ryan is'nt to concerned about the walk-in music...it's that walk-off stuff you need to worry about as a closer.

Just put your hat on crooked and stroll out to the mound to the tune of "Red Solo Cup"...get it? Reds,  Red solo cup...nevermind.

Every time he uses quotes in this article, it's, you know, a quote.  That's probably why he keeps using quotes.

Putting every other word in "quotes" for "emphasis" is really "annoying".
