Carl Crawford underwent arthroscopic surgery on his left wrist, Red Sox general manager Ben Cherington told reporters today (via Rob Bradford of WEEI.com). Cherington said that while Crawford could miss the start of the season, the Red Sox haven't ruled out the possibility that he'll be ready for Opening Day.
According to Cherington, Crawford began experiencing soreness in the wrist when he increased his hitting activity within the last few weeks.
Crawford had a terrible first season with the Red Sox, after signing a seven-year, $142 million contract as a free agent.

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayAt least Red Sox Nation and new GM/whipping boy Cherington already have their excuse for Crawford sucking this year. "He's hurt." Or: "We rushed him back. He shouldn't have suited up until May at the earliest." Or: "With our other bust signing out with Tommy John, the pressure was too great on him."

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayMy problem with this whole thing is why did'nt anyone know about this until a month before Spring Training. This is the first he picked up a bat since last season? And IF it did bother him last season why not have the operation at the end of the season?

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayEveryone is blaming the pressure of playing in Boston as the issue that Carwford struggled with last year??? The pressure mostly comes from the media who fuel the emotions of the fans. Now I think that Crawford had an injured wrist last year and couldn't generate a decent swing with his top hand without being in pain. This shouldn't be another hurdle for Crawford or The Sox. The right thing for all was for him to get surgery now for a recurring injury. Maybe his head was always in the game but his wrist limited his ability to drive the ball and get on base more. He's not a bum he had a very good career in Tampa and he will have a very good career in Boston! Have Faith!

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayAmazing how every single stat number of his went down last year, except strike outs. Being a Yankees fan this is the ONLY thing that I will forever thank the Red Sucks organization for, thank you, thank you, thank you for out bidding and paying more than the Yanks would have for this guy. Sure, he could have a great year in 2012, but nothing will erase the taste in RS mouths for the 2011 year he turned in.

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayCharlie: " Not an impact player "? Crawford is being paid as an impact player though. In fact, Crawford has in the past been an impact player. He hits about 15 hr's and drive in 75 runs. Scores 100, and steals 50 bases. Hits .300. If he gets over the pressure of playing in Boston, the media and fan scrutinty, he can be a disruption at the top of the lineup. Unfortunantly for Crawford, and the Sox, this is one more hurdle he has to clear following a disappointing first season in Boston.

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayBoston will probably be better off without him to start the season. Crawford let eh pressure of Boston get to him, sitting out the beginning og the season might be good for him...

Crawford has wrist surgery, may miss Opening DayRed Sox copying the Yankees again. Signing players past their prime to gigantic and untradable contracts then getting minimal return on investment is totally our move.
