Doctors treating Gary Carter are now certain that the Hall of Famer's brain tumors are malignant, and also that they can't be removed through surgery.

In a statement released Tuesday, the doctors at Duke University said that biopsies have conclusively shown that Carter has a glioblastoma, the most common form of malignant tumor. They recommended what they called "an aggressive treatment plan" that would include chemotheraphy and radiation, and they said that Carter will return home to Florida to continue treatment.

"Mr. Carter's youth, strong physical condition and fighting spirit will be to his advantage as his treatment commences," Drs. Allan H. Friedman and Henry S. Friedman said in the statement.

Carter turned 57 in April.

Carter's family also released a statement Tuesday, thanking fans for the great outpouring of support.

"Gary was always a fierce competitor on the baseball field, and that same tenacity will help him not only fight but win this battle, so please join Team Carter and continue to pray with our family," the statement said.

I normally don’t respond online but Cancer is not a Fungus. As a person who watch my father die from brain and lung cancer do to smoking 3 packs of cigarettes a day for 30n years and a mother and 2 sisters that have survived breast cancer I can tell you I know a great deal about the disease. So I hope this helps the people who are truly clueless out there. Cancer is a term used for diseases in which abnormal cells divide without control and are able to invade other tissues. Cancer cells can spread to other parts of the body through the blood and lymph systems. The reason concordant be universally cured is that cancer is not just one disease but many diseases. There are more than 100 different types of cancer. Most cancers are named for the organ or type of cell in which they start - for example, cancer that begins in the colon is called colon cancer; cancer that begins in of the skin is called basal cell carcinoma.
Cancer types can be grouped into broader categories. The main categories of cancer include: Carcinoma - cancer that begins in the skin or in tissues that line or cover internal organs. Sarcoma - cancer that begins in bone, cartilage, fat, muscle, blood vessels, or other connective or supportive tissue. Leukemia - cancer that starts in blood-forming tissue such as the bone marrow and causes large numbers of abnormal blood cells to be produced and enter the blood. Lymphoma and myeloma - cancers that begin in the cells of the immune system. Central nervous system cancers - cancers that begin in the tissues of the brain and spinal cord. For proper information on cancer look at the National Cancer Institutes web page. I don‘t think that u-tube is the most reportable site to get info on this disease.
