NEW YORK -- Yankees left-hander Pedro Feliciano is headed for surgery that will cost him the rest of this season and maybe a lot more.
An MRI on Feliciano's left shoulder revealed a torn capsule, and while Feliciano will get a second opinion from Dr. James Andrews, general manager Brian Cashman calls surgery "a strong possibility."
Worse yet, Cashman compared Feliciano's injury to the one that has kept Chien-Ming Wang from pitching in the big leagues for the last two years.
The Yankees are down to one left-hander in their bullpen, and Boone Logan (five hits and three walks in two innings) is off to a bad start.
"Left-handed relievers are so hard to find," Cashman said. "I'll look, but I'm not going to find one anytime soon."
Meanwhile, the Yankees have put both of their top pitching prospects -- Manuel Banuelos and Dellin Betances -- on the disabled list in the minor leagues. But Cashman said both are suffering only from blisters.
"I have one theory," Cashman said. "The big-league ball has different seams from the minor-league ball, and they were both in big-league camp for a long time."
